Official Measurements
For
tournament purposes, the size of the fish will be determined by
its overall length with the longest fish being considered the largest.
The overall length of the fish is the distance in centimeters between
the tip of the nose and the fork of the tail with the measuring
tape following the middle row of scutes along the side of the fish.
All sturgeon will be measured by both length and girth. The girth
is the measurement around the body of the fish at its largest point
excluding the fins.
Note:
In the event that there is a tie in the overall length of a winning
fish the largest girth will determine the winner. All measurements
will be done by one of 3 official tournament marshals. In the unlikely
event that there is a tie in both length and girth between the 2
largest fish the follow process will take place:
- The anglers
catching the top 2 fish that are tied in both length and girth
will split the first
and second place prize monies which will result in both anglers
receiving $25,000 each.
- The angler
with the next largest fish will receive the “Third Largest
Fish” prize money of $5,000
Communications Guides and participants will call a
marshal for an official measurement only when they believe they may
have a potential prize winning fish. Marshals will ensure that all
guides and participants are aware of the overall lengths of the 3
largest fish by making an announcement immediately after a new top
3 fish has been recorded.
Win: 20’ Custom Weld
Jet Boat
Prior
to the tournament, three sturgeon will be tagged with numbered and
colour coded Floy Tags. Of the 3 fish, the tag number of (1) has
been registered for a special prize. If the sturgeon is recaptured
bearing the corresponding tag number the participant will win a
new “Custom Weld Jet Boat” valued at approximately $60,000
CAD from Venture River Boats in Chilliwack.
If a fish is recaptured with a Floy tag the following protocol must
be followed:
- Call for
the nearest tournament Marshall to attend and witness
- Using the
guide camera take photos of the tag while still in the fish
- Carefully
remove the numbered tag from the fish and give it to the attending
Marshall
